Putin And Xi Reaffirm Strategic Alliance Amid Growing Global Uncertainty.

01 Sep 2026 Putin And Xi Reaffirm Strategic Alliance Amid Growing Global Uncertainty.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping have reaffirmed the strength of their strategic partnership during a meeting in Kyrgyzstan, as the two leaders discussed growing uncertainty in the international order.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek on August 31, bringing together leaders from more than a dozen countries. Xi said China and Russia should continue strengthening their relationship despite what he described as increasing uncertainty and unpredictability in the international situation. He said the foundations of bilateral relations had become stronger and that the partnership had promising prospects for the future.

Putin also highlighted the continued development of cooperation between Moscow and Beijing, saying that the two countries’ collaboration was progressing across a wide range of areas. The meeting came as Russia continues its war in Ukraine, now in its fifth year, while China maintains close diplomatic and economic ties with Moscow. Beijing has repeatedly denied providing Russia with material support for its military campaign in Ukraine.

The relationship between China and Russia has become increasingly important to both countries as they seek to strengthen cooperation on international and regional issues. The two governments have also continued to coordinate their positions through international organisations and groups such as the SCO, BRICS and the United Nations.

During the meeting, Xi stressed the importance of continued cooperation in the face of changing global conditions. He also said that China was prepared to work with Russia and other countries to promote greater cooperation and contribute to reforms in global governance.

The discussions underline the growing importance of the China-Russia partnership at a time of significant geopolitical change. Both governments have repeatedly called for a more multipolar international system, while seeking greater cooperation with countries outside the traditional Western alliances.

Putin and Xi’s latest meeting is also significant because it was their first face-to-face meeting since May. Their continued high-level contacts demonstrate the importance both leaders place on maintaining close relations.

The SCO summit provides an important platform for Moscow and Beijing to engage with other regional powers, including India and several Central Asian countries. The gathering comes amid wider debates over the future balance of global power and the role of emerging international alliances.

The latest discussions between Putin and Xi are therefore expected to reinforce the perception that China and Russia intend to maintain close strategic cooperation, even as international tensions and uncertainty continue to shape global politics.
