Multiple people injured as active shooter opens fire at Bondi Beach

Multiple people injured as active shooter opens fire at Bondi Beach

The public has been urged to avoid Bondi Beach as police respond to reports of an active shooter incident at the popular Sydney location.
New South Wales Police confirmed they were dealing with a serious incident after reports of multiple shots being fired. Large numbers of police vehicles were seen converging on the area as emergency services secured the scene.
Local media have reported that a Hanukkah event was taking place on Bondi Beach at the time of the shooting. Witnesses described chaotic scenes, with one local telling the Sydney Morning Herald they saw “at least 10 people on the ground and blood everywhere”.
Sky News correspondent Nicole Johnston said video footage of the incident is circulating online and described it as graphic. She said the footage appears to show two men firing from a pedestrian bridge towards Bondi Beach, with injured people seen lying on the ground receiving medical treatment.
“There is blood on the ground, so clearly there have been a number of people injured,” she said.
Police have confirmed that two people are now in custody. However, authorities continue to warn members of the public to stay away from the area while the situation remains under control and investigations continue.
Further updates are expected as police work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
