Israeli Airstrikes in Southern Lebanon Kill 10, Including Senior Military Officers
Israeli airstrikes targeting southern Lebanon on Friday killed at least 10 people, including senior members of the Lebanese Armed Forces, according to Lebanese officials.
One of the deadliest strikes reportedly hit a military vehicle traveling between the Nabatiyeh and Marja Youn regions, killing a brigadier general, a captain, and another soldier. In a separate attack on the village of Saksakiyah, several civilians were killed and others injured.
The Lebanese military condemned the attacks, describing them as a serious escalation that threatens ongoing efforts to restore stability in the border region. Lebanese authorities accused Israel of violating the country's sovereignty and undermining attempts to secure a lasting ceasefire.
Israel's military confirmed carrying out operations in southern Lebanon, stating that the strikes were directed at suspected Hezbollah-linked activities based on intelligence assessments. Israeli officials said the military did not intentionally target Lebanese army personnel.
The latest violence comes amid continued diplomatic efforts to reduce hostilities along the Israel-Lebanon border. However, repeated exchanges of fire and military operations have fueled fears of a broader escalation, despite international calls for restraint.
Lebanese political leaders urged the international community to intervene and pressure all sides to respect existing agreements aimed at preventing further conflict. Humanitarian organizations have also expressed concern over the growing impact of the violence on civilians living in affected areas.
The incident marks another setback for peace efforts in the region, where tensions have remained high following months of cross-border confrontations and military operations.
