Iran Warns US Against New Attacks As Fighting Intensifies In Yemen.
Iran has warned the United States against carrying out further military attacks as tensions remain high across the Middle East, with Tehran saying any new strike would lead to retaliation against US interests in the region.
Iran's military headquarters said it had information suggesting that the United States was preparing for another attack. Iranian officials warned that US bases and interests could face retaliation if Washington launches further military action.
The warning comes as diplomatic efforts continue alongside the military confrontation. US President Donald Trump has indicated that he remains open to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, while mediators have been attempting to keep channels for negotiations open.
At the same time, fighting has intensified in Yemen, where government forces are attempting to regain territory from the Iran-aligned Houthi movement. Some of the heaviest clashes have been reported in Taiz province and areas close to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a major international shipping route.
The conflict in Yemen has also had wider regional consequences. Houthi forces have carried out attacks against targets in Saudi Arabia, including Riyadh and energy infrastructure in Yanbu, while Saudi and Yemeni forces have responded with attacks on Houthi positions.
The renewed fighting has also contributed to a worsening humanitarian situation in Yemen. The UN's migration agency said at least 112,000 people had been displaced inside Yemen during the two weeks before September 18, while nearly 3,000 people had crossed the Gulf of Aden to Djibouti.
Meanwhile, tensions around the Strait of Hormuz remain high. Reuters reported that only a small number of commercial vessels passed through the waterway over the weekend, compared with around 125 large commercial vessels a day before the conflict began.
Despite the military escalation, diplomatic activity has continued. Iran has previously communicated conditions for returning to negotiations, including an end to the war, the release of frozen Iranian assets and the lifting of the US naval blockade, according to Al Jazeera. The latest developments leave the region facing continued uncertainty, with US-Iran tensions, fighting in Yemen and disruption around key shipping routes all contributing to the wider Middle East crisis.
