Iran Claims New Missile Attacks On US Warships As Hormuz Tensions Escalate.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps IRGC has claimed it launched ballistic missile attacks against US Navy vessels, further escalating the confrontation between Tehran and Washington in and around the Strait of Hormuz.

The IRGC said its forces targeted a US aircraft carrier and a Navy destroyer, claiming the vessels had been involved in enforcing a naval blockade and had harassed Iranian shipping. Iranian officials warned that attacks could become more severe if the blockade and pressure on Iranian vessels continue.

The claims came after the United States struck three Iranian oil tankers, with US officials saying the vessels were connected to networks supporting Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. The US military said two tankers were permanently disabled and a third vessel was destroyed.

Washington has said its warships were targeted by multiple Iranian attacks but that the vessels evaded the missile strikes without casualties. Iran has separately claimed that its forces targeted American linked vessels, although some of those claims have not been independently verified.

The confrontation is centred on the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes. The continuing military activity is increasing concerns about the safety of commercial shipping and the potential impact on global oil supplies and prices.

The latest exchange marks another sharp escalation in the conflict after months of intermittent fighting and failed diplomatic efforts. Both sides have issued warnings of further military action, raising fears that the confrontation could widen across the Gulf region.
