Iran Calls For End To War And US Naval Blockade.
Iran has called for an end to the ongoing war with the United States and demanded that Washington lift its naval blockade as efforts to restart diplomatic negotiations continue.
The latest development comes after Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said Tehran had formally communicated its conditions to the United States through Qatar, which has been acting as a mediator between the two sides.
According to Rezaei, Iran is seeking three main measures: an end to the war on all fronts, the release of frozen Iranian funds and an end to the US naval blockade. He said Tehran was waiting for a response from US President Donald Trump.
The comments come as regional countries continue efforts to bring the conflict back towards negotiations. Qatar and Pakistan have been working to help re-establish talks between Washington and Tehran after an earlier memorandum of understanding between the two countries expired.
The conflict began after US and Israeli strikes against Iran in late February, which killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and triggered a wider regional confrontation. The fighting has since affected military facilities, energy infrastructure and shipping through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
The issue of the naval blockade remains particularly significant. The United States announced measures to restrict maritime traffic involving Iranian ports earlier in the conflict, while Iran has repeatedly demanded that the restrictions be removed as part of any agreement. Reuters previously reported that the US blockade was focused on maritime traffic entering and leaving Iranian ports, while Washington said vessels travelling through the Strait of Hormuz to non-Iranian ports would not be subject to the same restrictions.
Iran has also continued to signal that it is preparing for further military confrontation if diplomatic efforts fail. Rezaei said Tehran's military planning had increasingly focused on US naval assets in the Gulf, Gulf of Oman and Arabian Sea. At the same time, he said Iran was working under a strategy intended to bring the war to an end as soon as possible.
The latest Iranian message therefore combines calls for negotiations with warnings about continued military readiness. Al Jazeera's reporting described this as a dual approach, with Tehran expressing willingness to engage diplomatically while maintaining preparations for further conflict.
The situation also continues to affect international shipping. The Strait of Hormuz, a major route for global energy supplies, has seen sharply reduced traffic during the conflict. Reuters reported in August that only a small number of vessels were passing through compared with the more than 130 vessels a day that crossed the waterway before the war.
For now, there is no confirmed agreement to end the conflict. Tehran says it is awaiting Washington's response, while Qatar and Pakistan continue their mediation efforts. Further developments are expected as both sides assess whether negotiations can be resumed.
