China’s Xi Backs Myanmar Leader as Both Nations Strengthen Ties in Beijing
Chinese President Xi Jinping has backed Myanmar leader Min Aung Hlaing during a meeting in Beijing focused on strengthening relations between the two countries. The talks marked a major diplomatic engagement between China and Myanmar.
Min Aung Hlaing travelled to China for a five day state visit, his first visit since consolidating power following controversial elections. The meeting comes as Myanmar continues to face political instability and internal conflict.
During the talks, both leaders discussed closer cooperation in areas including trade, transport, health and other sectors. Several agreements were signed covering a range of joint projects and partnerships.
China has remained one of Myanmar’s most important international partners since the military takeover in 2021. Beijing has continued supporting stability efforts while maintaining economic and strategic interests in the country.
The meeting highlights China’s growing role in Myanmar’s future as regional powers watch developments closely. Analysts say stronger ties with Beijing could increase Myanmar’s international support while raising further questions about the country’s political direction.
