Storm Bram to hit Cumbria with wind and heavy rain
Storm Bram is forecast to bring flooding and significant travel disruption to Cumbria, with the Met Office issuing both rain and wind warnings for the county.
A yellow warning for heavy rain will be in effect from midnight until 15:00 GMT on Tuesday. A separate yellow wind warning comes into force from midday Tuesday and remains in place until 06:00 on Wednesday.
National Rail has advised passengers to expect delays or cancellations and to check services before travelling.
According to the Met Office, 20 to 40mm of rain is likely in some hill areas, with totals reaching up to 80mm on higher ground in Cumbria. The storm is also set to bring strong winds.
“Gusts of 50 to 60 mph are possible in many areas, with the potential for gusts over 70 mph on exposed headlands and higher ground,” a spokesman said.
