16 Apr 2026 Michelin Star Masterclass Inspires Cumbrian Pupils

A group of Cumbrian pupils have taken part in an exclusive Michelin star masterclass, gaining hands-on experience and insight from some of the region’s top chefs.

The event was designed to introduce young people to high-level professional cooking, while also encouraging interest in careers within the hospitality and food industry. Pupils were given the chance to observe expert techniques, learn about ingredients, and take part in practical cooking activities under professional guidance.

The masterclass highlighted the standards and creativity required to achieve Michelin recognition, showcasing the dedication and teamwork behind some of Cumbria’s most acclaimed restaurants.

Organisers said the session aimed to inspire students by exposing them to world-class culinary skills and demonstrating the range of opportunities available within the sector, from kitchen roles to wider food and tourism careers.

Cumbria is widely recognised as one of the UK’s leading culinary destinations, with a high number of Michelin-starred restaurants contributing to its strong reputation for fine dining and locally sourced produce. The county’s hospitality industry continues to attract chefs and food lovers from across the country and beyond.

Teachers who attended with the pupils said the experience was valuable in broadening students’ understanding of the industry and encouraging ambition, teamwork, and creativity.

The initiative forms part of wider efforts to connect education with real-world industries, helping young people explore potential career paths while learning directly from professionals at the top of their field.
