19 Apr 2026 Updated Speed Limits Confirmed For A595 Grizebeck Improvement Scheme

New speed limits have been agreed as part of the major A595 Grizebeck improvement scheme designed to upgrade one of the key transport routes in the region.

The project involves the construction of a new single carriageway road linking areas around Grizebeck and Chapels with a focus on improving safety and journey reliability.

Local authorities confirmed that revised speed restrictions will be introduced across several roads connected to the scheme to ensure safer travel for motorists and residents.

Under the updated plan sections of the A595 will operate under a 40mph limit while nearby local roads including the C5013 and C5014 Buckthorn Lane will have reduced 20mph limits to control traffic speeds in sensitive areas.

The former route of the A595 which has been reclassified will also carry a 20mph restriction alongside additional measures such as traffic controls and access limitations.

Officials stated that the improvements aim to deliver better road safety support local communities and create a more resilient transport network for the future.

Concerns had been raised about varying speed zones along the new road with some sections previously proposed to change between different limits however authorities indicated that monitoring systems including cameras will help manage compliance.

The overall scheme which has received significant government funding is expected to boost economic activity and improve connectivity in the surrounding areas by ensuring smoother and safer journeys for all road users.

Council members ultimately approved the updated speed limit proposals marking another step forward in the delivery of the wider Grizebeck road improvement project which continues to progress toward completion.
