Lake District A592 Set to Reopen After Major Repairs Ahead of Summer

17 Apr 2026 Lake District A592 Set to Reopen After Major Repairs Ahead of Summer

A vital road through the Lake District the A592 is on track to reopen in time for summer after being shut for months due to a significant landslip.

The route which connects key tourist areas and runs near Kirkstone Pass was closed following the incident in late 2025 causing disruption for both local residents and visitors.

Authorities have now confirmed that repair work is underway with specialist teams working to stabilise the damaged hillside and restore the road safely. The project includes reinforcing the slope using advanced engineering methods and rebuilding parts of the road structure to prevent future incidents.

Officials say the work is expected to take around 12 weeks with the goal of reopening the road before peak summer holidays when the region sees a surge in tourism.

The A592 is considered a crucial transport link in the area used by commuters as well as tourists visiting popular destinations such as Ullswater Valley and surrounding attractions.

Local authorities have reassured the public that every effort is being made to ensure the road is safe stable and fully operational ahead of the busy travel period.

The reopening is expected to provide a major boost to local businesses and tourism which have been affected by the prolonged closure.
