Cumbria Police Announce Mobile Speed Camera Van Locations To Improve Road Safety

08 Jul 2026 Cumbria Police Announce Mobile Speed Camera Van Locations To Improve Road Safety

Cumbria Police have announced the locations where mobile speed camera vans will be operating as part of their continuing road safety campaign.

The initiative is designed to encourage motorists to obey speed limits, reduce the number of road traffic collisions, and make Cumbria's roads safer for everyone. According to the latest update, enforcement officers will be carrying out speed checks on the A5086 between Cockermouth and Egremont, the A66 east of Keswick, Brigham, Cockermouth, and the M6 between Junctions 38 and 42. Drivers using these routes are advised to remain alert, observe posted speed limits, and adjust their driving to suit road and weather conditions.

Police say the deployment of mobile camera vans is part of a wider strategy to reduce casualties caused by excessive speed. Speeding remains one of the leading factors contributing to serious and fatal road traffic collisions, and enforcement is intended to encourage safer driving rather than simply issue penalties.

Motorists who exceed the speed limit may face a fixed penalty, penalty points, or in more serious cases, prosecution through the courts. In some circumstances, eligible drivers may be offered a driver awareness course instead of penalty points, depending on the nature of the offence and their previous driving history.

Road safety officials continue to remind motorists that respecting speed limits protects not only drivers but also passengers, cyclists, and pedestrians. They encourage everyone to plan journeys carefully, avoid distractions behind the wheel, and drive responsibly at all times.
