Speed Camera Vans Deployed Across Cumbria Today

20 May 2026 Speed Camera Vans Deployed Across Cumbria Today

Cumbria Police have announced that mobile speed camera vans will be operating at a number of locations throughout the county on Wednesday, May 20, in an effort to tackle speeding and improve safety on local roads.

According to the latest enforcement schedule, camera vans will be positioned on several busy routes, including the A689 between Brampton and Alston, the A686 linking Alston and Penrith, and areas surrounding Brampton and the A69 corridor. Enforcement activity is also expected in Millom, Whitehaven, and along the A595 route between Barrow and Millom. Additional checks are planned on the A5086 between Cleator and Lamplugh.

Police say the deployment of speed camera vans is part of a wider strategy aimed at reducing accidents caused by excessive speed and dangerous driving. Officers continue to remind motorists that speeding remains one of the leading causes of serious road collisions across the region.

Authorities noted that the locations may change depending on operational requirements and traffic conditions. Drivers are therefore being encouraged to remain alert and obey speed limits at all times, regardless of whether enforcement vehicles are visible.

Cumbria Police regularly publish the planned locations of mobile enforcement vans to raise awareness among motorists and encourage safer driving habits. Road safety officials believe visible enforcement plays an important role in lowering speeds and preventing injuries on both rural and urban roads.

Motorists travelling through Cumbria today are advised to allow extra time for their journeys, particularly on major routes where traffic monitoring operations are taking place.
