Reduced parking as work continues on Aspatria Co-op pop-up store

04 Jun 2026 Reduced parking as work continues on Aspatria Co-op pop-up store

Residents and visitors in Aspatria are being advised to expect reduced parking availability as work progresses on a new larger temporary Co-op store at the town’s Queen Streetcar park.

Cumberland Council confirmed that the construction project is ongoing and is likely to continue for the rest of the week, leading to limited access for motorists using the car park.

The pop-up store is being developed to provide continued retail services while the town’s main Co-op site on King Street remains closed for redevelopment. The existing store closed last year to allow for demolition and rebuilding work.

Despite the disruption, council officials have confirmed that essential facilities, including recycling banks, will remain accessible throughout the construction period.

The Co-op has previously stated that delays and additional structural requirements have affected the redevelopment programme. The company is working with contractors to complete the project and provide improved retail facilities for the community.

The temporary store expansion is intended to better serve local residents during the transition period while long-term redevelopment work continues.
