Plans Unveiled for New Zebra Crossings in Ulverston
Plans have been revealed for the installation of two new zebra crossings in Ulverston, with a public consultation now underway.
Westmorland and Furness Council are proposing the crossings on Springfield Road following requests from local councillors, Ulverston Town Council, nearby schools, and members of the community. The scheme is designed to improve pedestrian safety in an area with high foot traffic.
Springfield Road serves several educational facilities, including Ulverston Victoria High School, St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, and Sandside Lodge School, all located close to one another. An independent safety assessment identified a lack of safe crossing points along the route, highlighting the need for improved infrastructure.
The proposals include one zebra crossing near St Mary’s Catholic Primary School and a second crossing just north of the junction with Springfield Park Road. Some changes to parking arrangements and new waiting restrictions would also be required at the proposed sites.
A statutory consultation is currently open and will run until May 29. After the consultation period ends, feedback will be reviewed before a final decision is made by the South Lakeland Locality Board.
Residents are encouraged to submit their views as part of the decision-making process, which aims to balance road safety improvements with local access and parking needs.
