Cumbria Police Deploy Speed Camera Vans Across Major Roads in Sunday Safety Operation

05 Jul 2026 Cumbria Police Deploy Speed Camera Vans Across Major Roads in Sunday Safety Operation

Cumbria Police has confirmed the locations of its mobile speed camera vans for Sunday as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety. Enforcement officers will monitor several busy roads and towns across the county. Drivers are being reminded to obey speed limits and travel responsibly.

The camera vans will operate in Millom, along the A595 between Millom and Whitehaven, and in Kirkby in Furness. Enforcement will also take place on the A65 between Kirkby Lonsdale and Kendal. Additional checks are planned on the A683 between Sedbergh and Kirkby Lonsdale. Police say the locations have been selected to help reduce speeding and improve safety.

Motorists using the M6 between Junctions 38 and 35 should also expect speed enforcement during the day. The A6 between Penrith and Kendal is another key route where camera vans will be in operation. Officers regularly target roads with higher traffic volumes and previous concerns about speeding.

Police continue to encourage drivers to remain alert, follow posted speed limits and adapt their driving to weather and road conditions. Road safety campaigns are designed to reduce collisions and improve safety for all road users. Authorities stress that enforcement is intended to prevent accidents rather than simply issue penalties.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and avoid unnecessary risks while travelling across the county. Responsible driving can help protect motorists, passengers, cyclists and pedestrians alike. Police say every journey should begin with safety as the top priority.

The latest enforcement operation forms part of Cumbria Police's continuing commitment to improving road safety throughout the region. Regular speed checks are carried out on roads where excessive speed has been identified as a significant risk factor. Officials hope the visible presence of camera vans will encourage safer driving and reduce the number of serious collisions.
