Young Leopards forward Oliver Polec joins Whitehaven on loan

26 Mar 2026 Young Leopards forward Oliver Polec joins Whitehaven on loan

Whitehaven have confirmed the acquisition of Oliver Polec on a season‑long loan from Betfred Super League club Leigh Leopards, strengthening their pack as the club pushes through the current Championship campaign.

The 19‑year‑old forward signed a three‑year deal with Leigh ahead of the 2026 season after progressing through the academy ranks at St Helens and impressing at junior level with Woolston Rovers. He made his professional debut earlier this year with Salford, gaining valuable experience before moving to Whitehaven on loan.

Interim head coach James Newton welcomed Polec to the club, saying the young forward comes with high recommendations from coaching staff at Leigh and will add strength in the middle of the field. Newton added that Polec is “excited about coming to Whitehaven” and views the loan move as a chance to test himself at Championship level.

The loan comes ahead of Whitehaven’s upcoming trip to face North Wales Crusaders this weekend, where Polec could make his debut in Haven colours.

This move continues Whitehaven’s strategy of strengthening their squad through loan signings from top‑flight clubs as they aim to climb the Championship standings.
