Whitehaven Shine as Celtic and Millom Suffer Setbacks in Mixed Weekend Results

27 Apr 2026 Whitehaven Shine as Celtic and Millom Suffer Setbacks in Mixed Weekend Results

Whitehaven produced another impressive display to extend their strong finish to the season, securing a convincing 4-0 away win against CMB. Despite already being relegated, the side has shown significant improvement in recent weeks, recording two wins and two draws in their last four matches.

They took control early, with George Frampton netting twice in the first half to give them a solid advantage. The visitors remained composed under pressure after the break, adding further goals through Carney and Frampton to seal a dominant all-round performance. The result leaves Whitehaven with a chance to move off the bottom of the table in their final game of the season.

Cleator Moor Celtic, meanwhile, showed signs of improvement but were again undone by missed opportunities in a 2-1 defeat at Rossendale. After conceding late in the first half, Celtic responded quickly following the restart when Leo Brennan equalised. However, their momentum was short-lived as Rossendale regained the lead just minutes later and held on for the win.

Millom also endured disappointment despite a spirited comeback in their home fixture against Astley and Buckshaw United. Trailing 2-0, they fought back through Jed Phillips and a fine strike from Jamie Pattinson to level the score early in the second half. But their efforts were ultimately in vain, as the visitors struck twice in the closing stages to claim a 4-2 victory.

Elsewhere, Milnthorpe Corinthians secured a narrow win over Hurst Green, with Zack Clark’s second-half goal proving decisive in a tightly contested encounter.

Overall, it was a weekend that highlighted Whitehaven’s resurgence, while Cleator Moor Celtic and Millom were left to reflect on missed chances and late setbacks.
