West Cumbria Charity Golf Day Aims to Save Men’s Lives

23 Apr 2026 West Cumbria Charity Golf Day Aims to Save Men’s Lives

A charity golf day in West Cumbria is set to raise awareness and vital funds in the fight against prostate cancer, one of the most common cancers affecting men. Organisers say the event not only promotes community spirit but also encourages men to take their health seriously through early diagnosis.

The annual event, held at Workington Golf Club, has become a key fundraiser supporting Prostate Cancer UK. Over the years, it has generated tens of thousands of pounds for research and treatment, helping to improve survival rates and patient care.

The initiative was founded by Ian Andrew, who was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in 2014. After undergoing treatment and later receiving the all-clear, he launched the golf day to give back and support ongoing research. His experience highlights the life-saving impact of early detection and medical advances.

Co-organised with a team of supporters, the event continues to grow in popularity, attracting dozens of participants and local sponsors each year. Beyond fundraising, organisers stress the importance of raising awareness, particularly among men over 50 or those with a family history of the disease, who are at higher risk.

With strong community backing and increasing participation, the charity golf day remains a powerful initiative aimed at saving lives and supporting ongoing efforts to find better treatments and ultimately a cure for prostate cancer.
