Ulverston Festival Faces Uncertain Future Without Fresh Leadership
ULVERSTON One of the town’s most distinctive cultural events is facing an uncertain future after organisers announced they will step down without a replacement team ready to take over.
The popular Ulverston Festival, a highlight of the town’s event calendar in recent years, may not return next season unless volunteers or a new committee come forward to lead its organisation. The group currently behind the festival said that, after years of running the event, they are no longer able to continue due to the significant time and effort required, coupled with difficulties recruiting new support.
Festival supporters and community members have been urged to consider stepping up to help preserve the event, which attracts visitors and performers alike and brings a boost to local businesses.
Without new leadership, the organisers warned that the 2026 edition of the festival could be the last, marking a major loss for the town’s cultural landscape. Talks are ongoing, but at present no confirmed successor group has emerged.
Residents and interested volunteers are being asked to get in touch with the festival committee to discuss how they might help keep the long-standing event alive.
