Sun Inn Teams Power Ahead as Aspatria Pool League Race Heats Up

The battle for supremacy in the Aspatria Pool League intensified this week as several clubs delivered impressive performances across key fixtures. Leading the charge were both Sun Inn teams, with Sun Inn B clinching a vital win to keep pressure on the league leaders.
In a tightly contested match against Wigton Park BC, Sun Inn B struck first through an in‑form Ben Scott, followed by Dan Long to establish an early lead. Although Brady Bell responded for Wigton Park with an excellent eight‑ball clearance, Sun Inn regained control and claimed the match 6–3 following crucial late singles and doubles victories.
While Sun Inn B continues its climb, Sun Inn A remain at the top of the table after a convincing 8–1 triumph over Throstle B. David Thompson starred with an eight‑ball clearance, and only one frame went Throstle’s way in what was a dominant display by the leaders.
Elsewhere in the top‑of‑the‑table battle, Miners A displayed their strength with a 7–2 win at Wigton, racing into a 5–1 lead after singles and holding firm in the doubles to secure a vital victory.
The local derby in Silloth between Cumberland A and Cumberland B provided one of the weekend’s most thrilling matches. Cumberland B overcame an early deficit to take a 4–2 lead after singles, before clinching the win 5–4 in the doubles.
Wigton Rugby Club also chalked up a 6–3 victory over Letters B, with standout performances from Stephen Rumney and Eddie Miller, each winning both their frames.
In another competitive fixture, Miners B beat Sun Inn FC 6–3, overcoming an early exchange of frames to secure the win with strong doubles play.
With the league now past its mid‑season point, the fight for top spots is shaping up to be a thrilling contest, as clubs jostle for position ahead of the business end of the campaign.
