Robot lawnmowers join Carlisle Rugby Club

02 Apr 2026 Robot lawnmowers join Carlisle Rugby Club

Carlisle Rugby Union Club has introduced three robotic lawnmowers to help manage its large playing fields, following a new partnership initiative.

The club received the machines free of charge as part of a collaboration between England Rugby and STIGA. The advanced mowers are expected to ease the workload of maintaining around eight acres of grass at the club.

In addition to providing practical support, the partnership also offers club members and visitors a discount on a range of STIGA gardening equipment. The club will further benefit financially by receiving a small percentage cashback from any purchases made through the scheme.

Adding a touch of fun to the initiative, the club invited its community to name the machines through a social media competition. One of the smaller mowers had already been named “ITSY,” while two larger machines were later given creative rugby-inspired names by competition winners.

The robotic mowers are now in operation across different areas of the grounds, cutting the grass regularly throughout the week. Designed to trim little and often, they help maintain healthier pitches while operating at times that avoid training sessions and matches.

Club officials say the new technology will play a key role in improving pitch quality and reducing maintenance demands during the busy playing season.
