Northside Hit Mirehouse For 12 In West Cumberland Sunday League
Northside produced a dominant attacking display as the reigning champions swept Mirehouse aside with a remarkable 12-1 victory.
The reigning West Cumberland Sunday League champions had made a relatively slow start to their campaign, but they produced a powerful response with a commanding performance against Mirehouse. Their 12-goal haul provided a clear statement of intent as they looked to build momentum in the early stages of the season.
Matty Stephenson led the scoring for Northside with a hat-trick, while Jamie Bramley and Harry Watson both added two goals apiece. Chad Grisdale, Logan Bosward, Jack Nixon, Ethan Heron and Josh Hoggarth also found the net during an emphatic afternoon for the champions.
Mirehouse did manage to register a consolation goal, with Lincoln Tunstall finding the net during the match. However, Northside's attacking output proved far too strong, with the champions continuing to find opportunities and eventually finishing with a 12-1 scoreline.
While Northside enjoyed a huge victory, it was Deer Orchard who continued to set the pace at the top of the Premier Division. They secured another important three points by defeating Moresby Rangers 5-3 in a closely contested match at Wakefield Road.
Deer Orchard's goals came from Kyran Bertram, who scored twice, together with Jayden Fulton, Nick Wood and Ewan Harrison. Moresby Rangers responded through Owen Woodburn, who also scored twice, and Jay Connor, but the home side ultimately held on to claim the victory.
There was also an away victory for Lowca in the other Premier Division fixture, with the Pirates recording a 4-1 success at Dearham. Owen Todd, McCauley Woodburn, Callum Wilson and Travis Fyfe all contributed goals as Lowca secured a convincing result on the road.
Dearham managed to find the net once through Alfie Green, but the home side could not match Lowca's attacking contribution. The result added another significant outcome to a Premier Division round that produced plenty of goals across its fixtures.
The Division One programme also produced several high-scoring matches, beginning with Puncheon's meeting with Sun Inn. The newcomers were beaten 10-3 at home, as Sun Inn produced an impressive attacking display to claim a comfortable victory.
Harry Creighton scored three times for Sun Inn, while Louie Elliot and Callum Fox both contributed two goals. Tyler Hodgson, Lucas Tinnion and Lewis Fisher completed the scoring for the visitors in a result that gave them a convincing margin of victory.
The other new side in Division One, Union Jack, also suffered defeat, although their match was considerably tighter. They went down 2-1 to Workington Falcons, with Liam Holder and Dave Watson scoring for the Falcons before Luke Youdale replied for Union Jack.
There was mixed fortune for the two Maryport sides involved in Division One action. Netherhall were beaten 3-1 by King's Arms, despite Steven Stoddart scoring for the Maryport team, while Kieran Frazer, Jack Stainton and Josh Stewart secured the points for the Egremont side.
Maryport Amateurs enjoyed a more positive afternoon, defeating Royal Oak 4-1. Jack Burns, Jack Greenhow, Connor Kilgour and Cody Benson all scored for the Amateurs, while Carl Lofthouse provided Royal Oak's only goal in the contest.
The collection of results underlined the attacking nature of the latest West Cumberland Sunday League programme, with goals flowing across both divisions. Northside's 12-1 win was the standout score, but several other fixtures also produced four or more goals as teams continued their league campaigns.
With Northside finding their scoring form and Deer Orchard continuing to lead the Premier Division, the early season competition is already producing a number of significant results. Lowca also strengthened their position with victory at Dearham, while Division One saw heavy defeats alongside much closer contests.
