Match Called Off as Whitehaven Struggle for Players While Millom Secure Victory

Whitehaven were forced to call off their West Lancashire League match at Cleator Moor Celtic after failing to field enough players due to injuries, work commitments and a large portion of their squad being away on an annual trip this week. Eight members of their squad who played last week were in Benidorm, leaving the team unable to fulfil the fixture. The cancellation is set to result in a fine for the club, as well as a points deduction, and the match will need to be rescheduled later in the season. The challenging season has been a tough baptism for new manager Brian Dawson, who has acknowledged the difficulties and said he is already looking forward to rebuilding for a stronger 2026/27 campaign.

Elsewhere in the division Millom took advantage of their match going ahead and collected three hard‑earned points with a 1‑0 home win against Burscough Richmond. The sole goal came 33 minutes in from Millom’s Ben McDonald, and despite a strong performance the visitors were kept in the game by a standout performance from the Burscough goalkeeper. The victory lifts Millom clear of Burscough in the league standings and adds valuable momentum as they continue their season.

Other fixtures in the league saw mixed results, with Milnthorpe Corinthians suffering a defeat at Tempest United, highlighting the competitive nature of the Premier Division this term.
