Maryport Rugby League Stars Shine At Club Presentation Evening
Maryport Rugby League Club has recognised its players, coaches and volunteers after a successful season, with two players taking centre stage.
Lewis Moore enjoyed a particularly memorable evening after collecting four major awards for his performances with the club’s Cumbria Conference side. He was named Referees’ Player of the Year, Supporters’ Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and Player of the Year. He also shared the side’s top try-scorer award, underlining his influence throughout the campaign.
Moore’s success marks a significant development in his sporting career. He had previously been part of Danny Grainger’s Workington Reds first-team squad in the Northern Premier League, where he had been regarded as a player with considerable potential. His recent performances in rugby league have demonstrated how successful his switch to the sport has been.
Finley Moore, who is no relation to Lewis, also enjoyed an outstanding season with Maryport’s A team, which competes in the Cumbria Men’s League. He collected four awards: A Team Supporters’ Player, A Team Referees’ Player, A Team Players’ Player and A Team Player of the Year.
The presentation evening brought together members of the club to celebrate achievements across its teams and recognise the contribution of those involved behind the scenes. Club chairman Spencer Ivison opened proceedings with a few words before secretary and former captain Ian Ivison addressed those attending.
A Team coach Scott Akehurst and head coach Mark Foster also shared their thoughts during the evening. Their contributions formed part of a celebration recognising the efforts made by players and volunteers throughout the season.
The awards were presented by Ian Ivison, who handed out trophies to the successful players, as well as recognising the work of the club’s coaches and volunteers. The evening provided an opportunity to acknowledge achievements at both senior and A-team level.
Maryport’s international representatives were also recognised, with Lewis Walling and Alex Woodhall receiving awards for their honours with England and Scotland. Their recognition highlighted the club’s contribution to players reaching representative rugby league.
Luke Baker was named the first team’s most regular player, receiving the Most Appearances award. Callum Toal collected the equivalent recognition for the A team, while Baker also received the Most Dedicated award across the club.
The Most Improved awards went to Luke Cuthbertson and Danny Herbert. Their progress during the season was recognised alongside the wider range of individual performances celebrated at the event.
Tyler Chilton was named the club’s overall Young Player of the Year. The award recognised his contribution and development, with the presentation made by club secretary Ian Ivison.
Lewis Walling finished as the A team’s leading try-scorer with 10 touchdowns. Liam Penman received the A Team Coaches’ Player of the Year award, while Luke Baker was also named Captain’s Player of the Year.
The senior side’s leading try-scorers were Lewis Moore and Keenan Winter, who each crossed the line 13 times. Winter also shared the Coaches’ Player of the Year award with Scott Atherton, recognising their performances during the campaign.
Travis Mayne received the Clubman of the Year award, acknowledging his contribution to Maryport Rugby League. The presentation evening also included awards made in memory of Sadie Reed, Lorraine Degraff and Sean Crozier, with members of their families attending the ceremony.
The range of awards reflected achievements across the club, from individual playing performances and try-scoring records to dedication, development and service. The evening brought the season to a close by recognising the people whose efforts have helped support Maryport’s teams both on and off the field.
