Knockout Rounds Underway in John Peel Darts League
The knockout phase of the Dickie Smithson Memorial Trophy in the John Peel Darts League began over the weekend, with a full programme of first-round matches taking place across eight local venues.
Rosley recorded a comprehensive 6-0 victory over Bridge End B, while Tam O’Shanter defeated Sun Inn C by the same scoreline. Blackamoor also progressed with a 6-3 win against Wheatsheaf, and Wigton Bowling Club edged Red Dial Arrows 6-5 in a close contest.
In other fixtures, Sun Inn A beat Oddfellows 6-0, Crown secured a narrow 6-5 win over Letters A, and Red Dial Sparrows overcame Hare and Hounds 6-4. Aspatria Bowling Club completed the list of winners with a 6-3 victory against Silloth Bowling Club.
Standout individual performances included a 180 by Jake Bennett of Hare & Hounds and maximum scores from Aspatria’s Mark Sloan, David Graham and Eddie Carrick. Duggie James of Wigton Bowling Club recorded a 160 finish, and David Carr of Blackamoor posted two strong checkouts of 117 and 100.
Aspatria’s Stewart Reynolds also enjoyed a memorable weekend, making his Cumbria County Darts debut and earning the Man of the Match award.
Next week’s quarter-final and semi-final matches will see Rosley face Tam O’Shanter and Blackamoor take on Wigton Bowling Club at Wigton Park Bowling Club. At Letters Inn, Sun Inn A will play Crown Inn, while Red Dial Sparrows meet Aspatria Bowling Club.
