Kendal Town Seek Return to Northwest Counties Football League

21 Apr 2026 Kendal Town Seek Return to Northwest Counties Football League

Kendal Town have officially applied to return to the Northwest Counties Football League after spending the past two seasons competing in the Northern League.

The club, based in Cumbria, was previously moved into the Northern League but had appealed the decision at the time, although their appeal was unsuccessful. During their two-season spell in the Northeast, Kendal Town narrowly missed out on securing a play-off place, finishing just outside the top positions.

Despite competitive performances on the pitch, the main reason behind the club’s request to switch leagues again is financial pressure. Rising travel costs have significantly impacted the club’s budget, with expenses increasing by around £17,000 this season alone.

Officials at the club believe that a return to the Northwest Counties League would help reduce long-distance travel and ease financial strain, especially amid ongoing concerns over fuel costs.

The application now awaits a decision from the relevant league authorities, which will determine whether Kendal Town will be allowed to make the switch for the upcoming season.
