Kells Youngster Archie Robinson Signs Two Year Contract With Huddersfield Giants
Kells youngster Archie Robinson has secured a two year contract with Super League club Huddersfield Giants after impressing the club during his time playing and training with Warrington Wolves.
Robinson has continued playing locally for Kells Under 16s while travelling to Warrington two or three times a week for training and matches. He has established himself as a versatile forward who can play at prop or loose forward, giving him experience in several positions.
His move to Huddersfield follows interest from the club after staff saw him play and train. The opportunity gives the young West Cumbrian a pathway into the professional game while allowing him to continue developing his rugby and education.
Robinson's father Curtis said his son had shown a high level of commitment to rugby throughout his scholarship period. He also highlighted the wider talent available among young players in West Cumbria who travel significant distances to train with professional clubs.
Archie's move comes as Kells Under 16s continue to enjoy an impressive period, having won promotion to the North West Counties League Premier Division last season and reaching the Lancashire Cup final this year. The team will face Blackbrook in the final on October 11, with the opposition expected to include players already on scholarship or professional deals.
Robinson will remain available to play for Kells until the Lancashire Cup final before moving to Huddersfield. His official shirt presentation at the club is scheduled for September 12, giving him an early opportunity to mark the beginning of his new professional pathway.
Alongside his rugby league commitments, Robinson has also played rugby union for Whitehaven and St Benedict's. When he is not travelling to Warrington for training and matches, he continues to train with local clubs and maintain his involvement in rugby across West Cumbria.
Rugby also runs strongly through Robinson's family, with his uncles Craig and Gary Chambers involved in the sport and three cousins currently playing for Kells' open age side. His family background has provided him with a strong connection to the local rugby community.
Robinson will also be continuing his education after moving to Huddersfield, where he plans to attend an engineering college alongside his rugby commitments. His family is helping him prepare for living independently as he takes this next step.
His father said the family were extremely proud of Robinson's achievement but recognised that securing the contract was only the beginning of his professional journey. The youngster will now face increased demands both on and off the field as he adapts to life with a Super League club.
The move represents another opportunity for a young West Cumbrian player to progress through the professional rugby league system. Robinson's development will now continue at Huddersfield as he works towards establishing himself within the club's pathway.
For Kells, Robinson's contract is another reflection of the talent emerging from its youth system, while his continued involvement with the club before his move to Huddersfield gives him an opportunity to help his current side pursue Lancashire Cup success.
