Grapes Hold Their Nerve to Win Final Frame Decider in Workington Pool League
In the latest round of the JJ’s Workington Pool B League, the Grapes produced a dramatic finish to secure a 7-6 victory over Station Road B, keeping their challenge for honours very much alive.
The tightly contested match saw the lead swing back and forth, with the Grapes taking the advantage on five separate occasions only for Station Road B to respond each time. At one stage the Grapes established a two-frame lead thanks to Barry Graham’s quality pot on the yellow to set up Roger Denwood with a straightforward black.
Station Road B hit back through Liam Farragher, whose confident pot of the final red and black tied the match at 6-6, setting up a winner-takes-all finale. It was then that Frankie Peel stepped up, expertly converting his remaining five balls and calmly sinking the final black to seal victory and secure the precious two points for the Grapes.
Elsewhere in the league, Harrington Legion B remain top of the section on frame difference after an 8-5 win over Cons Club A, while Red House A keep slim promotion hopes alive with a 9-4 success. The Pack Horse Pooligans boosted their safety bid with a narrow 7-6 win over the Miners, and Red House B beat Bees Knees 8-5 in another competitive fixture.
In the A League, JJ’s A fought back from 5-3 down to take an 8-5 win against league leaders Harrington Legion, and JJ’s B went joint top after a 9-4 victory over Pack Horse A. Waverly also climbed into contention with a 9-4 win against JJ’s C, while Station Road C closed the gap on relegation rivals with a 10-3 triumph over Moss Bay A.
The league continues to provide close and competitive action as teams battle for honours, promotion, and to avoid the drop as the season heads towards its final stages.
