Comets Boss Admits Craig Cook Absence Hurting Team Performance

11 May 2026 Comets Boss Admits Craig Cook Absence Hurting Team Performance

Workington Comets manager James Denham has acknowledged that the team is feeling the effects of Craig Cook’s injury, describing the rider as a “massive miss” during a difficult run of results.

Cook is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury, forcing the Comets to rely on guest riders in recent fixtures. The disruption has coincided with a challenging weekend in the Cab Direct Championship, where the team suffered back-to-back defeats, including a home loss to Plymouth.

Denham admitted that constantly bringing in replacements has made it hard to build consistency. He stressed that Cook’s absence is felt not only in racing performance but also in his influence within the team environment.

Despite the setback, there is optimism that Cook could return soon. The manager revealed that the rider is making positive progress in recovery and may return to practice ahead of upcoming fixtures.

Denham believes that having Cook back in the lineup will strengthen the team significantly, especially with important matches on the horizon.

Meanwhile, British Speedway authorities have confirmed dates for two major Championship events later this season. The Championship Pairs will take place in August, while the Championship League Riders’ Championship is scheduled for September.
