Border City 7s Festival Celebrates Rugby Success in Carlisle

02 Jun 2026 Border City 7s Festival Celebrates Rugby Success in Carlisle

Carlisle Rugby Club has hailed the latest Border City 7s tournament as a major success after a weekend that showcased high-quality rugby and strengthened community ties across the region.

The popular festival brought together men's and women's teams from northern England and Scotland, creating a vibrant atmosphere both on and off the field. Organisers said the event highlighted the growing strength of rugby in the region while providing a platform for players, supporters, and local communities to come together.

In the women’s competition, Carlisle secured victory in the Plate final against Wigton, while Durham Palatinates claimed the Women’s Cup with a 22-10 win over Durham Knights. Carlisle also enjoyed success in the Men’s Plate, defeating Stewartry to lift the trophy.

The Men’s Cup Final provided a fitting finale to the tournament, with Six 7s producing an impressive performance to overcome Friars Old Boys 31-14 in an entertaining and hard-fought contest.

The weekend began with a special exhibition match between Cumbria Rams Veterans and Carlisle Masters, bringing together rugby union and rugby league players in a celebration of both codes. A Young Farmers fixture against Annandale further added to the festival atmosphere and community spirit.

Away from the action on the pitch, spectators enjoyed live music, entertainment, and performances from Carlisle Dance Academy, helping to create a family-friendly festival environment. Organisers said the event continues to play an important role in promoting rugby participation and supporting the sport’s long-term development across Cumbria.

Carlisle Rugby Club thanked its sponsors and partners for their support, stating that their contribution helped ensure another successful tournament. Looking ahead, organisers are already planning to build on this year’s achievements and further expand the event’s impact on rugby in the region.
