Bewley Triumphs as 93 Hounds Compete at Kelton Fell Racing Meeting

08 Jun 2026 Bewley Triumphs as 93 Hounds Compete at Kelton Fell Racing Meeting

Kelton Felt hosted one of the season’s major Hound Racing Association meetings on Saturday, attracting 93 hounds across six competitive grades and drawing spectators for a day of exciting racing.

The highlight of the event was the prestigious Produce Race for young hounds, which featured 10 runners battling for top honours.

The race produced a memorable victory for Bewley, owned by Tony and Marlene Irving, their grandsons Connor and Carter Irving, and co-owner Gary Woodend. The win proved especially popular among spectators and supporters gathered at the fell.

Pre-race favourite Rodney Ranger started strongly and was among the leading pack throughout much of the contest. As the hounds navigated the challenging course across the fell, several contenders remained closely grouped, creating a highly competitive race.

Approaching the final climb, Rodney Ranger, Charlie’s Dream, What Is It and Bewley were locked in a fierce battle for victory. In a dramatic finish, Rodney Ranger appeared set to claim the title before drifting left near the line, allowing Bewley to surge through and secure victory by a narrow margin.

Rodney Ranger finished second, with Charlie’s Dream taking third place. What Is It followed in fourth, while Is It and Let Me Try Again completed the ticket positions.

Organisers praised the quality of competition and the strong turnout, with the event showcasing some of the sport’s most promising young hounds and delivering an entertaining day of racing for competitors and spectators alike.
