New Planning Applications Lodged Across Barrow.
A series of planning applications have been submitted across Barrow-in-Furness, giving residents an opportunity to view proposals and comment before decisions are made.
The latest applications cover a wide range of projects, from changes to residential properties and new housing proposals to commercial alterations, advertising installations and energy-related developments. Among the applications recently recorded is a proposal for North Quay and North Quay Hardstanding at the Devonshire Dock Complex. The application involves the demolition of existing structures and the installation of welfare and office accommodation facilities, together with a security cabin and associated works. The application was started on 8 September 2026 and remains awaiting a decision.
Another application concerns land next to 55 Abbey Road, where proposals have been submitted to remove two existing 48-sheet paper advertising displays and replace them with an internally illuminated 48-sheet digital display. The application was registered on September 2 and is currently awaiting a decision.
At 2 Monks Croft Avenue, an application has been submitted for works to a tree protected by a Tree Preservation Order. The proposal involves felling a beech tree to ground level and removing the resulting material from the site. This application is also currently undecided.
Residential proposals have also featured in the latest planning records. At Birchwood, 62 Dominion Street, an application has been lodged for the construction of a pair of semi-detached homes with off-street parking to the rear. The application was submitted on August 24 and remains under consideration.
Elsewhere, an application for 1 Essex Street seeks a Lawful Development Certificate confirming the existing use of the property as a five-bedroom House in Multiple Occupation (HMO). A similar certificate application has been submitted for 100 Hartington Street, also relating to an existing five-bedroom HMO use.
Energy infrastructure is another part of the recent planning picture. An application has been submitted for the construction and operation of a micro energy storage project on land between Abbey Road and Fairfield Lane. The proposal was received on August 24 and remains subject to the planning process.
The latest applications add to a substantial number of planning matters being tracked across the Barrow area. The local planning system allows residents to view applications, examine supporting documents and submit comments where consultation remains open. Westmorland and Furness Council says its online planning service can also be used to track the progress of individual applications.
Importantly, the submission of a planning application does not mean that permission has been granted. Each proposal must go through the relevant assessment process before the council reaches a decision.
Residents wishing to follow developments in their neighbourhood can search the Barrow planning register using an application reference, address or other relevant information and check whether comments are still being accepted.
