St Paul’s Hall Flats Recommended For Approval Despite 54 Objections.

Plans to redevelop a former church hall in Barrow have been recommended for approval despite significant opposition from local residents.

The proposal concerns St Paul’s Hall on Hawcoat Lane, which closed in 2020. The plans would see the existing buildings and structures demolished and replaced with a three storey apartment block containing 16 two bedroom flats. The scheme also includes associated infrastructure, parking and landscaping.

The application, submitted by Hawcoat Residential Limited, has attracted 54 objections from members of the public, highlighting the level of concern surrounding the proposed development. Despite the objections, planning officers have recommended that the application should be approved, meaning the scheme is now moving through the formal planning process.

The redevelopment would transform the site from its former community and church hall use into a residential development, providing additional housing in the Barrow area. Planning records show the application as B07/2025/0359, with the proposal specifically covering the demolition of the existing buildings and construction of 16 apartments.

The proposal is likely to remain a point of interest for nearby residents, particularly given the number of objections submitted. Issues commonly considered during the planning process include the impact of new development on surrounding properties, parking, traffic, appearance and the wider character of the neighbourhood. If planning permission is granted, the redevelopment would mark a significant change for the former St Paul’s Hall site and introduce a new residential block to the Hawcoat Lane area.
