Holker Hall To Host Global Greyhound Walk With Around 100 Dogs.
Holker Hall is preparing to welcome dozens of greyhounds and their owners for this year’s Great Global Greyhound Walk, with around 100 dogs expected to take part in the South Cumbria event.
The walk will take place on Sunday, September 27, 2026, with Retired Greyhounds South Lakes (RGSL) organising the event at the Holker Hall Estate in Cark. The group has been given permission to use the estate grounds for this year’s walk. Participants will meet at the Holker Hall visitor car park, with the walk starting at 11am. The route will take walkers and their dogs through the estate’s deer park, just outside the formal gardens.
Organisers have planned a gentle one-mile accessible route, giving participants the opportunity to enjoy the surrounding countryside while spending time with other greyhound owners and enthusiasts. The event is specifically for sighthounds, with organisers asking owners to keep their dogs on leads throughout the walk.
Some of the greyhounds attending may be nervous around other breeds of dogs, so owners have also been reminded to take appropriate precautions. RGSL says nervous dogs should be muzzled where necessary and that dog waste should be bagged and disposed of responsibly.
The event also provides an opportunity to support the work of Retired Greyhounds South Lakes, an independent charity that helps retired ex-racing greyhounds find loving homes. The charity has been matching greyhounds with families since 2004 and operates without traditional kennels, with dogs living in home environments.
A £1 donation per hound will be collected at the start of the walk, with money raised going towards the charity’s work. Free parking will be available at Holker Hall, while refreshments will not be provided as the estate has a café on site. The charity will also have its van at the event selling merchandise, including calendars, raffle tickets, clothing, collars, leads and other items.
The Global Greyhound Walk gives the local community a chance to celebrate the breed while raising awareness of the needs of retired racing greyhounds. With around 100 dogs expected at Holker Hall, the event is set to create a striking sight across the estate’s grounds. Holker Hall, located near Cark-in-Cartmel and Grange-over-Sands, has also hosted a range of events during its 2026 season, with its grounds regularly used for community, cultural and outdoor activities.
