Train Services Disrupted After Points Failure Causes Cancellations
Train services on the Cumbria Coast Line were severely disrupted after a points failure forced cancellations and delays across the network.
Operator Northern confirmed that all lines between Barrow and Cork ickle were blocked on Thursday, April 23, causing widespread travel disruption for passengers.
A large number of stations were affected, including St Bees, Sellafield, Seascale, Millom, Ulverston, Grange-over-Sands and Lancaster, leaving commuters and travellers facing delays or needing alternative arrangements.
Rail services between Carlisle and Whitehaven continued to operate as normal, providing some relief for passengers travelling along that section of the route.
Network Rail engineers were dispatched to the site early in the morning to resolve the issue, with work expected to begin around 8am. The disruption was anticipated to last until approximately 11am.
Passengers were advised to check for updates and allow extra time for their journeys as efforts continued to restore normal service.
