Family Pays Tribute to Teenager Who Died in Lake District Tarn Tragedy
The family of a 17-year-old teenager who tragically died following an incident at a Lake District tarn have paid an emotional tribute, describing him as a bright and caring young man who “brought warmth and laughter wherever he went.
The boy, named as Absi Ahmed Mohammad, lost his life after getting into difficulty while swimming with friends at High Dam Tarn near Windermere earlier this month. Emergency services were called after reports that someone was in trouble in the water, prompting a large-scale rescue operation involving police, firefighters, ambulance crews, and mountain rescue teams.
Despite efforts to locate him, his body was later recovered from the water. Authorities have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
In tributes shared after his death, family and friends remembered him as a loyal friend and a loving son with a bright future ahead. They said his passing has left “deep and unimaginable pain” and described him as someone who had a natural ability to make people smile and feel included.
Friends also spoke of the lasting impact he had on those around him, calling him more than just a friend and saying his loss has “changed us forever.”
An inquest into the teenager’s death has been opened, with preliminary findings indicating he drowned after encountering difficulties in the water. The investigation is expected to continue in the coming months.
The tragedy has prompted an outpouring of support from the local community, with fundraising efforts launched to assist the family and to promote water safety awareness in the area.
