Brewers Fayre Restaurants to Close Nationwide as Whitbread Restructures
Brewers Fayre restaurants across the UK are set to close as part of a major restructuring plan by their parent company, Whitbread.
The hospitality group, which also owns the Premier Inn hotel chain, is overhauling its five-year business strategy amid rising costs and financial pressures. The move follows a review launched after increased expenses linked to government tax changes and wider economic challenges.
Whitbread has already begun converting some underperforming Brewers Fayre and Beefeater restaurants into additional hotel rooms and plans to continue this process across its remaining 197 sites.
Around 3,800 jobs are expected to be affected by the closures, although the company has said it will attempt to redeploy many employees into other roles within the business.
In Cumbria, several Brewers Fayre locations are among those impacted, including sites near Whitehaven, Carlisle, Barrow, and Cockermouth, along with a Beefeater restaurant in Carlisle.
The restructuring marks a significant shift for Whitbread as it focuses on expanding its hotel operations, signalling the end of an era for one of the UK’s well-known family dining chains.
