South Cumbrian Film Festival Raises £1,500 for Mountain Rescue Team

18 Apr 2026 South Cumbrian Film Festival Raises £1,500 for Mountain Rescue Team

A film festival held in South Cumbria has raised £1,500 for a local mountain rescue team, thanks to strong community support. The fundraising event was organised by Broughton-in-Furness Film Club and took place last month in aid of the Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team.

The festival featured a selection of 11 films chosen from more than 120 submissions originally entered into the London Mountain Film Festival. The programme showcased a wide range of outdoor and adventure activities, including rock and ice climbing, snowboarding, trail biking, highlining, and caving.

Organisers said the event attracted a positive response from audiences, with one of the standout films focusing on a beach artist creating intricate geometric patterns in sand. The film club expressed its appreciation for the strong turnout and support from the local community.

The funds raised have been donated to the Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team, which is currently building a new operational base. Team members said such contributions are vital, especially following large-scale rescue operations that require significant resources and coordination.

Rescue officials noted that community fundraising plays a crucial role in helping them improve facilities and respond more effectively to emergencies in the region.
