Lake District-Inspired Game Atomfall Wins Best British Title at BAFTA Awards

19 Apr 2026 Lake District-Inspired Game Atomfall Wins Best British Title at BAFTA Awards

A video game inspired by the Lake District has been named Best British Game at the prestigious BAFTA Games Awards. Atom fall, developed by Rebellion, secured the award at the 2026 ceremony held in London.

The game is set in an alternate version of Cumbria following the real-life 1957 Windscale nuclear disaster. Players explore a fictional quarantine zone years after the incident, navigating a dark and atmospheric countryside filled with factions, mystery, and survival challenges.

Blending action, survival, and horror elements, Atom fall takes players through iconic West Cumbrian locations, including areas inspired by Sellafield and other regional landmarks.

Since its release in March 2025, the game has achieved significant commercial success. It attracted more than 1.5 million players within its first week and has since grown to over 3.5 million players, with millions of hours logged worldwide.

The BAFTA recognition adds to the game’s growing list of achievements, having also won Best British Console Game at the UKIE awards earlier this year.

The BAFTA Games Awards celebrate excellence in the gaming industry, with the Best British Game category recognising titles developed primarily by UK-based studios.
