Workington Thirds Retain Burton Cup After Dominant Bowling Display
Workington Thirds added another piece of silverware to their successful 2026 campaign after retaining the Burton Cup with a convincing 54 run victory over Cockermouth Thirds.
Asked to bat first, Workington produced a competitive total of 200 for eight from their innings, setting Cockermouth a challenging target in the cup final.
Matt Young provided an early contribution of 21 before his dismissal brought Tom McGeen to the crease. McGeen then remained at the wicket until the end of the innings, playing an unbeaten innings of 73.
His knock included nine fours and a six, with McGeen also benefiting from several Cockermouth fielding errors as he built an important foundation for the Workington total.

Cockermouth reached 146 before losing their final wicket in the 38.3rd over, leaving Workington with a 54 run victory. Hallam Browne remained unbeaten on 16 but could not prevent his side from being dismissed short of the target.
