Workington Operatic Society Unveils Anniversary Production Of Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Workington Amateur Operatic Society has revealed that Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will headline its 120th anniversary celebrations, marking a major milestone for one of West Cumbria's longest established performing arts groups.
The production holds special significance for the society as its junior section previously performed the musical more than a decade ago. This anniversary version will unite members from the senior, junior, and mini sections, creating a cast and crew of more than 100 people ranging in age from four to over 80. Organisers say the production reflects the society's commitment to bringing generations together through live theatre.
Returning to the spotlight is Andrew McMinn, who appeared as one of Joseph's brothers in the earlier production and will now take on the lead role of Joseph. He will perform some of the show's best known songs, including Any Dream Will Do and Close Every Door. Joining him on stage are Jasmin Smith as the Narrator, Tony McGee as Pharaoh, and Graeme Wishart as Jacob. The society also confirmed that several award winning performers are part of this year's cast.
The production is being led by director Jennifer Hawley McGee, working alongside choreographer Robyn Miller and head of wardrobe Karen Pirt. Jennifer said the anniversary show is especially meaningful because it allows performers of all ages to share the stage, describing it as a true team effort both on stage and behind the scenes.
Performances will run at the Carnegie Theatre from October 14 to October 17, including a Saturday matinee. Theatre lovers are expected to travel from across Cumbria to celebrate the society's landmark anniversary and enjoy one of musical theatre's most popular family productions.
Founded more than a century ago, Workington Amateur Operatic Society has built a strong reputation for producing high quality community theatre while nurturing local talent. Its latest production promises to honour that legacy by combining experienced performers with the next generation of actors in a colourful celebration of music, storytelling, and community spirit.
