Work Begins to Remove Temporary Bridge in Kendal
Work has started in Kendal to remove a temporary bridge as part of ongoing infrastructure improvement and restoration efforts in the town.
The structure, which was installed to maintain access during earlier construction works, is now being taken down following the completion of permanent upgrades in the area. The removal forms part of wider regeneration and flood resilience schemes designed to improve long-term safety and accessibility in the town centre.
The temporary bridge had provided a vital crossing while major engineering works were carried out nearby, ensuring that pedestrian and local access was maintained during construction phases.
Now that the main project has reached completion, contractors have begun dismantling the temporary structure and clearing the site. This stage will allow for further reinstatement work, including landscaping and environmental improvements around the river corridor.
Local authorities have previously invested in strengthening flood defences and improving infrastructure in Kendal following historic flooding issues, with several projects aimed at increasing resilience and reducing disruption from future extreme weather events.
Officials say the removal of temporary structures is an important step in returning the area to its long-term design while ensuring the improvements made during the scheme continue to benefit residents and visitors.
