Woman Arrested After Police Discover Boot Filled With Stolen Goods

24 May 2026 Woman Arrested After Police Discover Boot Filled With Stolen Goods

A woman has been arrested in Cumbria after police officers searched a vehicle and allegedly found its boot loaded with stolen goods following a shoplifting report in Penrith.

According to Eden Police, officers responded to reports of theft at a Home Bargains store on Saturday, May 23. During subsequent inquiries, police stopped and searched a vehicle where they discovered a quantity of suspected stolen products valued at approximately £255.77.

The woman connected to the vehicle was arrested as investigations into the incident continue. Police have not yet released further details regarding her identity or possible charges.

In a separate incident on the same day, officers also arrested a man in connection with a previous shoplifting case linked to a Sainsbury’s store in Penrith. Authorities said around £800 worth of alcohol had reportedly been stolen during the earlier incident.

Police added that the man was stopped while driving a vehicle and was further investigated on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. Officers also charged him with possession of a Class C drug. He has since been released under investigation while awaiting blood test results.

The incidents form part of ongoing efforts by local police to tackle retail crime and repeat shoplifting offences across the region. Retail theft has become an increasing concern for businesses in many parts of the UK, with police forces continuing targeted operations against offenders involved in organised or repeat theft activity.
