Wind Turbine Fire in South Cumbria Brings Fire Crews to the Scene
Emergency services were called to South Cumbria on Wednesday afternoon after reports that a wind turbine had caught fire on land near Kirkby-in-Furness.
Crews from multiple stations including Ulverston Blue Light Hub, Barrow, Coniston and Broughton Fire Stations were dispatched at around 3:10 pm to tackle the blaze. Firefighters worked with the turbine’s operator to bring the fire under control and make the site safe.
Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service confirmed that the fire was small and that there was no danger to members of the public throughout the incident. The cause of the fire has not been publicly disclosed at this stage, and crews remained on scene until the situation was fully resolved.
Local reports and social media updates showed images of smoke rising from the hillside as firefighters coordinated their response, but residents in the surrounding area were reassured that emergency services had the situation in hand.
Wind turbines are large electrical and mechanical structures, and while fires remain relatively rare, such incidents typically require a measured response from fire crews due to the height and complexity of the machines.
No injuries were reported, and the scene was declared safe following the extinguishment of the fire. Emergency services thanked partners and local residents for their cooperation during the response.
If more details become available including the cause of the fire and any operational impacts updates will likely be provided by Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service.
