Whitehaven Man Jailed for Serious Child Sex Offences
A West Cumbrian man has been sentenced to five years and four months in prison after being found guilty of a series of serious child sex offences.
Jamie Hardy, 34, of Meadow Road, Whitehaven, was convicted of meeting a girl under 16 following sexual grooming, engaging in sexual communication with a child, and three counts of penetrative sexual activity with a girl. The offences related to a single victim.
The court heard that Hardy was aware of the victim’s age at the time of the offences. During the investigation, he denied the allegations in interview and attempted to wipe his phone after becoming aware that police were involved.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the court imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order to further safeguard children and restrict his future contact.
Following the sentencing, a Cumbria Police detective said the case demonstrates the force’s commitment to protecting vulnerable young people and ensuring offenders are brought before the courts. Officers have also urged anyone affected by sexual abuse to come forward and report concerns so appropriate action can be taken.
