West Cumbrian Village Road to Close for Four Days of Essential Roadworks

07 May 2026 West Cumbrian Village Road to Close for Four Days of Essential Roadworks

A road in a West Cumbrian village is set to close for four days while essential improvement works are carried out to upgrade infrastructure and improve safety for all road users.

The closure will affect the C4001 in Loca, near Whitehaven, which will be shut from Monday, May 11, for approximately four days, subject to weather conditions.

The works will include drainage repairs, improvements to the road surface, and the installation of a raised table designed to enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists. Upgrades to street lighting, road markings, and sections of the cycling network will also be completed as part of the scheme.

The project forms part of wider improvements to Route 72 of the National Cycle Network, also known as Hadrian’s Cycleway, aiming to improve connectivity and safety for active travel in the area.

The work is being delivered by DSD Construction on behalf of the local authority.

A full diversion route will be in place during the closure, with motorists advised planning ahead and follow signage.

Council officials have confirmed that emergency vehicles will still be able to access the area if required, and provisions will be made for pedestrians and cyclists, who may be escorted through the work zone where necessary.

Waste and recycling collections in the area are expected to continue as normal throughout the closure period.
