West Cumbrian Man Jailed After Robbing Store and Visiting Takeaway
A West Cumbrian man has been jailed after robbing a convenience store and then heading to a nearby takeaway shortly afterwards.
Ryan Langcake, 35, from Northside in Workington, was sentenced to four years in prison following the robbery, which took place on November 1, 2025.
Carlisle Crown Court heard that police were alerted to the incident late at night, involving the use of an offensive weapon in the Station Road area. CCTV footage showed Langcake jumping over the shop counter, knocking the till to the floor, and repeatedly striking it with a hammer in an attempt to open it.
After failing to access the till, he took a container holding between £200 and £300 in cash before fleeing the scene. The footage later showed him changing his clothes behind a wall and then entering a takeaway outlet.
Following the investigation, officers were able to track his movements and gather sufficient evidence to bring the case before the court.
Speaking after the sentencing, Detective Sergeant Peter Schofield stressed that robbery is a serious offence and confirmed that such crimes will not be tolerated. He also thanked witnesses and officers whose efforts led to the successful conviction.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to tackle violent and opportunistic crime across Cumbria.
