Vandalism Spree Causes Damage Along Bowness Promenade

22 Aug 2026 Vandalism Spree Causes Damage Along Bowness Promenade

Police are investigating a series of vandalism incidents in Bowness on Windermere after damage was reported around the town's promenade area during the early hours of August 3.

Officers were called at around 10am after reports of widespread criminal damage in the Bowness Promenade area. Several incidents were recorded during the overnight period, leaving parts of the area in a disorderly condition.

Rubbish bins were overturned and their contents were emptied onto the beach, while traffic cones were placed on lamp posts. Plants were also removed from their planters, adding to the damage caused in the area.

Police are appealing for information about a man captured on CCTV between approximately 11.30pm and 1.53am, who officers believe may have information that could assist their investigation.

The incidents have prompted police to appeal directly to anyone who witnessed the behaviour or was in the area during the relevant period. Officers are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen suspicious activity around Bowness Promenade during the early hours of August 3.

The vandalism affected public facilities and the appearance of an area regularly visited by residents and tourists. Damage to public spaces can also create additional work and costs for local authorities and other organisations responsible for maintaining the area.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward and assist with identifying the person responsible. Information can be submitted online through the police reporting service, quoting incident number 46 of August 3, 2026. Members of the public can also contact police by calling 101.

Anyone who witnessed the incidents or has relevant information is encouraged to report it, even if they believe the information may seem insignificant. CCTV footage and witness accounts could help officers establish what happened and identify those involved.

The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the vandalism and assess the extent of the damage caused.
