Ulverston Man Jailed for Fraud and Violent Assault on Woman
A man from Ulverston has been jailed for over two years after being convicted of multiple offences, including violent assault and fraud.
Ben Hurst, 33, of Larch Grove, Ulverston, was sentenced to two years and two months in prison at Preston Crown Court on January 21. He was found guilty of inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent, three counts of fraud by false representation, intentional strangulation and assault by beating.
The offences were committed against a single female victim. According to Cumbria Police, Hurst subjected the woman to a serious and violent attack, during which he grabbed her by the throat, threw her to the floor and locked her inside the house. He went on to assault her again the following day.
The victim suffered multiple injuries, including a fracture to her neck. While she was receiving treatment in hospital, Hurst fraudulently used her bank cards without her consent, adding financial crimes to the violent offences.
Speaking about the case, Detective Constable Katherine Taylor from Westmoreland and Furness CID said the actions of the offender would not be tolerated and emphasised that police are committed to bringing perpetrators of violence and abuse to justice. She also encouraged victims of abuse to come forward, assuring them they would be treated with professionalism, sensitivity and appropriate support.
Cumbria Constabulary stated that it continues to work closely with partner agencies to provide tailored support for victims of domestic and violent crimes.
